What I Wore to the Desert

We recently went to the Southern California desert on a day trip and wandered throughout the Coachella Valley and Palms Springs to see a desert art exhibit called Desert X. The 2019 Desert X event will runs from February 9, 2019 through April 21, 2019. I was so excited; this exhibit only happens every two years and I have been waiting anxiously!

With the destination in mind, it’s time to strategize for the trip!

Check the Weather:

The desert is actually pretty chilly in the early months of the year as the sun is coming up and going down. What does that mean…Pack a layer for warmth!

Review the Itinerary:

Driving around in the car and walking through the desert. Translation… comfortable clothing and sensible footwear.

Knowing that I would be in the car for a few hours on the way there and back, I decided on a comfy outfit that would work in the car and as I traipsed through the desert to get a closer look at the installations.

Choose a Color Palette:

Now it’s time to evaluate what colors I have in my closet that fit the weather and itinerary. Since it was a day trip I didn’t have that many restrictions on what to take with me or what to wear.

For this quick trip I went with shades of blues and beige's with a touch of black. I decided to go with casual denim. I packed a pair of jeans that have a lot of stretch—great for a car ride so they don’t stretch out, but still look put together. Along with a denim shirt and vintage knee high boots. The boots were an excellent choice for the desert. When I kicked up sand and gravel my boots were indestructible!

So many incredible art installations, I can’t wait for next time! To see more about the exhibits I saw check out this post.
