Liquid soap might be great for your home shower, but I love using bar soap when I travel! You get to pack all of your cleansers without the worry of leakage in your suitcase! You might be thinking that you love your beauty products too much to switch to generic bar soaps but trust me there are so many brands making bar soaps that you’ll be able to find suitable bar substitutes.
The benefits of bar soap go beyond leak-proof product. You also save money by buying soap and cleanser that hasn’t been pre-watered down to make a liquid soap. When you buy liquid soap you are paying for a lot of water, just by the nature of it being a liquid soap. Bar soap also requires less packaging and plastic than liquid soap, so you get the added benefit of reducing your carbon footprint!
My favorite travel bars include the Drunk Elephant Peke and Juju bar for cleansing my face, they even make a travel size bar duo! I also love Sephora’s brush cleanser for washing my makeup brushes while I travel. For body soap, I usually go with Ivory soap. I also like traveling with a laundry bar for unexpected stains!
List of liquid to bar swaps you can make:
Pro Tip: if I’m not going to use a full bar for a shorter trip I’ll cut my soap bars into halves or thirds just save space!
After I’ve collected all of the soaps I’m going to take on my trip, I start to think about what to put them in. I really like Matador travel gear for bars and liquids. The technology is great for camping but the slim gear is also really light and great for stuffing into a suitcase that’s tight on space! I've used their soap bar case and for the liquids I need to take with me, I use their Flat Pack Toiletry Bottles. They're lightweight, leak-proof and they have a great little hook and snap to hang over a shower bar if needed.
Another benefit of traveling with bars of soap is that you get so much more out of your bars, they will last longer, they are usually cheaper, and you won’t have to buy them as often as you’d need to refill your liquids. You’ll be surprised how long your products last when you switch to bars!
